The US Deaflympics Team has announced that ICSD has cancelled the 2011 Winter Deaflympics in Slovakia. There are many upset athletes and staff members right now. Funds were already committed to travelling to Slovakia, as well as scheduled time off from work and family.
Athletes invested time in practicing, as did their coaching staff.
This is a real shame, especially so close to the departure date of February 15. Currently there has been no information shared as to exactly why the event has been cancelled.
This is not the first time that the 2011 Winter Deaflympics have been cancelled. Only as recently as December 5 was the Deaflympics reinstated.
It is likely that the cause of the cancellation is the Slovakia Committee’s preparations, if history is any guide. But we will have to wait for more details.
