A year and a half ago, I used to describe myself as, “a graduate student that majors in MA in Clinical Psychology, and my specialized interests fall into the humanistic and health fields of psychology.” Presently, however, my goals have been changed by subjective experiences. In the past year and half I have have been living out of a suitcases in six different places throughout the states of New Jersey and Florida. I have endured the loss of my beloved Grandfather to cancer, my ill mother being in the hospital for months on end, and sisters going through their own health struggles. Little did I know that the second I walked out of my luxury two-bedroom apartment (equipped to fit my every physical need) and onto the open road that I’d know the meaning of being rootless. Now, I would describe myself as “a woman lured by the open road and experiences to be learned in the School of Life.” The similarity between the "self" statement I made a year and half ago and my current one is the theme of amour d’apprentissage; love of learning.

I had travelled to the localities of Clearwater, Boca Raton, and West Palm Beach. I was shocked [...]

Why Deaf Women Date Hearing Men (Or Don’t!)

Why Deaf Women Date Hearing Men (Or Don’t!)

By Megan Durante on November 1, 2010

As a confidante of several deaf and hearing girlfriends, I have been exposed to issues that come up when dating deaf and hearing men.  I decided to enlist the help of my girlfriends and find out what it is like to date a hearing man. One of the things I was surprised by during my research [...]
